SCO Crocker Deal
SCO Group reaches for the Heart of America
In a surprise move yesterday, the SCO Group announced a merger with Betty Crocker Inc., best known for their range of pastry products. The move may be seen as a step outside of SCO’s usual business domain, but spokesperson Long John Silver explained that it was ’simply a logical progression of our current business strategy. With Betty Crocker in our IP portfolio, we now control the rights to apple pie. We’ll be rolling out the new licensing scheme soon.’
When asked whether they would be seeking licensing fees from individual users of apple pie, Mr. Silver said ‘We’re still working out the details on that front. The larger enterprise users of apple pie, such as the Central Washington Museum (http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/index.asp?id=49175) can expect to be targetted first, but we don’t discount the possibility of approaching individual users at a later date.’
News of the merger has already ruffled feathers in the Open Source Community, the Women’s Institute and the international haut cuisine world. Noted celebrity chef Eric Raeburn, author of ‘The Baker’s Dictionary’ has issued an appeal for volunteers to collect evidence of ‘prior art’ of apple pie pre-dating Betyy Crocker, but noted ruefully that most of it has already been eaten.
